Amy Cameron
Residency: Valencia 09

Amy Cameron (b. Scotland), is a visual artist currently living and working in Edinburgh. Since graduating she has been creating new work and exhibiting widely across the UK, as well as working as a gallery assistant at the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy.
Cameron’s work looks at themes of memory, history and identity. Working in layers, she uses a mixture of media to create fragmented growing pieces where images and words appear and disappear like the layers of a distant memory. Text plays an important role in her work. Her interpretation of memory is related to storytelling, and she incorporates this in the form of confessional writing, diary extracts and poetry.
Her love of the written word and poetry is also an important element of her research, which consists of recording stories and thoughts. She searches for way to use new forms of language in my work, and experiment with text, by layering new thoughts and ideas into timeworn objects, creating works that preserve moments and materials gathered in her research, but seen from an unexpected viewpoint. Her work explores the tension between holding on and letting go, while moving towards the future.
